More than 4 years after the epic Shakespeare’s Histories project with Brave Spirits Theatre was forced to close in March of 2020, we finally have something to release to the world!
From the BST announcement of the Shakespeare’s Histories in Audio series: Shakespeare’s Histories began on stage in the fall of 2019. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic ended performances of The King’s Shadow (the first four plays) early and resulted in the complete cancellation of The Queen’s Storm (the latter four plays). In response, the company has spent the last three years reimagining their original theatrical work as audio dramas. We are thrilled to be able to share these stories with our audiences in this new format.
As a reminder, I play Richard II in Richard the Second and Richard III in Henry the Sixth, Part 2, Henry the Sixth, Part 3, and Richard the Third, among many other characters over the course of the epic eight-play series. I did get to perform Richard the Second, and the rest of the Henriad, live for audiences in 2020 before we were forced to close the project, and it was a rich, fulfilling experience that I’ll remember forever. I’m very happy that this team of artists committed to bringing our version of these plays to life in this new way, and I hope that the experience of listening along is half as rewarding as the experience of rehearsing and recording them was.
Shakespeare’s Histories in Audio provides 16 hours of listening divided into 24 episodes. The episodes will be available to stream for free at Brave Spirits Theatre’s YouTube channel. Episodes will be released Mondays and Thursdays at 7pm, EDT/EST, starting October 17th. Audiences can gather together in the chat for each live premiere, or stream the episodes later at their own convenience.
